Laparoscopic surgery uses smaller cuts than a traditional surgery. It is also known as Keyhole surgery or Minimally invasive surgery. In this surgical technique, the surgeon uses a laparoscope – a thin, telescopic rod with a camera and light at the end – to see inside the body without opening it all the way up. The laparoscope is inserted through a small incision in the skin, and the camera sends images to a video monitor. The surgeon then uses special instruments to perform the operation through other small incisions.
